Civic and Community Engagement

Corporate Communication

The minor in Corporate Communication (CC-UMNR) will introduce you to strategic communication for organizations or brands, including for-profit business, non-profit organizations, and government entities. You’ll be prepared to support organizations or brands with their communication goals and stakeholder relationship management. In addition to the foundational concepts of corporate communication, you’ll explore internal or external communication practices that contribute to organizational brand and reputation. You’ll also have the chance to pursue field-relevant interests such as social and digital media, risk and crisis communications, writing for the web, marketing, and management strategies.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

This interdisciplinary minor uses problem-based learning and other active learning pedagogies to prepare you to create value and be agents of positive change in your discipline and careers. The courses develop skills, knowledge and values in problem solving, innovation, opportunity recognition, self-efficacy, leadership, ethics, communications and learning from failure. This highly versatile program is also specially designed to give you the freedom to explore a broad range of entrepreneurship and innovation interests that establish your foundational knowledge. After completing these core courses, you’ll select a concentration cluster with options ranging from entrepreneurship in food and bio-innovation, technology, the arts, media, and hospitality, to digital, social entrepreneurship, advocacy and new ventures.

Game Development Minor

The Game Development minor (GAME) is open to any Penn State Lehigh Valley student, regardless of major. As an interdisciplinary minor, GAME complements technical majors (i.e. Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, and Information Technology) as well as non-technical majors (i.e. Art, Business, Communication, and Psychology). Far more than just computer programming, this exciting program will allow you to explore the artistic, social and psychological aspects of video games while laying the foundation for further study and/or employment in the gaming industry. It’s typically completed in 3-4 semesters, and some of the specific courses required by the minor can be used to fulfill requirements for both your current major as well as General Education requirements.
